In Brazil, the State of São Paulo has pioneered
the adoption of a complentary pension scheme
for public servants.
The primary objective of this scheme, inaugurated in December, 2011, is to guarantee long term stability in the pension system.
The Fundação de Previdência Complementar do Estado de São Paulo (Prevcom) [Foundation for Supplementary Pensions of the State of São Paulo] is the organization responsible for administrating this new system and guaranteeing secure benefits to its participants.
Upon retirement, the participant receives their basic pension plus a monthly income that will supplement this sum, paid by Prevcom based on the amount accumulated during active public service.
